WPA
– 1937 Anoka County Cemetery Survey… In
building the present church, bones were uncovered. The Church of St.
Genevieve of Paris is several blocks from the cemetery but was a part of
the original claim of Francis LaMott. LaMott gave land for the Catholic
cemetery sometime around 1854. Taken from Mr. McGaffey’s history of St.
Genevieve of Paris Cemetery at Centerville in Anoka County. Private
burial at the Church of St. Genevieve of Paris. ……………William
McGaffey September 1936 St.
Genevieve of Paris Cemetery is a very old cemetery, which was in use long
before 1855. In 1854, Father Kaller held mass at the home of Francis
LaMott, but missionary priests were there before that. He
was followed by Father Robert, but in 1861, Father Joseph Goiffon of
Little Canada and Centerville, kept the records. The
cemetery tract was a gift to the church by Francis LaMott. The dedication
date is unknown. The present Bishop has tried to obtain it, but the
present priest had to report that he could not find the date it was
blessed. When
graves are prepared, remains of former burials are unearthed, some
indicating Indian structure, no doubt those of converted Indians. Records
of the cemetery are: Cemetery plat, 1866-date, good condition; Parish
burial records, 1866-date, number of volumes unknown, good condition.
Records kept by Father A. Sherfer, Centerville village, Anoka County. ………………William
