TEACUP COLLECTION TO BE DISPLAYED
Throughout the month of February, a collection of teacups will be displayed in the lobby of the Anoka County History Center. Patrons may view the display free of charge. The collection, presented by Lotus Hubbard of Columbia Heights, contains teacups and tea accessories from all over the world. Several items belonged to Ms Hubbard’s grandmother, who was also from Columbia Heights. Much more than a vessel for tea, these cups were once used to classify one’s social position and to define the relationships between and among women.
This is the second in a series of lobby displays that allows the public a chance to showcase their own collections. January was dedicated to the clocks belonging to Don Johnson, and proved to be a “timeless” exhibit. Next month, March, will feature a collection of tin containers. Look for a new exhibit each month.
Patrons wishing to display their own collections should contact Vickie Wendel at the Anoka County Historical Society to be placed on the calendar.
